The 2016 Pirelli Calendar is finally here and it's unlike any other we've seen before.
Shot by the legendary Annie Leibovitz, this year's calendar features 13 intimate and clothed portraits of women who are shaping and changing society today. Known for racy and nude photos of the world's most famous models, this year's groundbreaking installment of the project features Yoko Ono, Patti Smith, Serena Williams, Fran Lebowitz, Amy Schumer, Tavi Gevinson, Ava DuVernay, Natalia Vodianova, Agnes Gund, Kathleen Kennedy, Mellody Hobson, Shirin Neshat and Yao Chen.
The first photos of the Italian tire company's promotional calendar have been revealed and we must say, they're simply beautiful. The black and white images, taken in a studio, moves away from the pin-up like models of the past and focuses more on the women exactly how they are.
In a release, Leibovitz explained her decision to feature not-so-naked photos. "I started to think about the roles that women play, women who have achieved something. I wanted to make a classic set of portraits. I thought that the women should look strong but natural, and I decided to keep it a very simple exercise of shooting in the studio.β
