Cougar In North Vancouver Backyard Came Out Of Nowhere

Now you see him, now you don't.

Now you see it, now you don't.

A cougar snuck into a North Vancouver backyard as about a dozen people sat nearby on New Year's Eve.

The big cat, which popped up out of the treeline, walked right in front of a security camera — but just as quickly as it appeared, the animal scampered off.

Olivier Vincent, who uploaded the footage to YouTube, said the cougar was spooked by a loud New Year's cheer.

The camera on the Deep Cove home had only ever captured small animals like raccoons in the past, Vincent wrote.

Cougar sightings in the area are "rare," but the animals often call the nearby backcountry home, according to the District of North Vancouver website.
