Chocolate was first used for its medicinal properties by the Mayans and Aztecs over 3,000 years ago. The cacao even had its own goddess, Ixcacao, who was believed to banish hunger and provide safety.
The Mayans worshipped the cacao tree and called its chocolate the “food of the gods," and many people to this day still feel the same way.
