Calgary Dashcam Video Shows High-Speed Crash On Deerfoot Trail

Yikes.

What could've been a deadly accident on one of Calgary's major roadways was caught on video by a dashcam, and the footage is intense.

The video shows a red PT Cruiser spinning out of control while heading southbound on Highway 2, just after the Memorial Drive overpass.

The SUV crashes head-on into a detached semi, sending the truck careening across three lanes of traffic into a third vehicle.

The crash may have been caused by black ice, which commonly forms on Deerfoot trail during the winter.

Emergency Medical Services spokesman Adam Loria said two people, both in their 40s, were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries, according to CBC News.

Calgary Police Staff Sargeant Paul Stacey says the department often uses dashcam footage to investigate crashes.

“It helps us figure out exactly what happened and who might be at fault," Stacey told Global News.
