Shawn Feener Brings Loverboy Parody Into Grand Falls-Windsor Byelection

"I grew up in the Loverboy era," said candidate Shawn Feener.

One Newfoundland byelection candidate is gunning for a seat on town council and he hopes a Loverboy parody video will add some lift to his wintertime campaign.

Seven people, including Feener, are on the ballot for councillor in Grand Falls-Windsor, N.L.

“We just wanted to try something different ‘cus getting door to door is gonna be extremely hard this time of year with all the ice and snow and stuff around,” Shawn Feener told The Huffington Post Canada in an interview.

He said the idea came after his son turned to him and said he’d do a music video.

“I said, ‘You, you go ahead and see what you can come up with’ — and this is what he came up with.”

His son Chris rewrote the lyrics of the ‘80s ballad “Working For The Weekend” to send a message about how “Everybody’s voting for Shawn Feener.”

Then comes the knock, Shawn is at your door

He’s got the answers, and so much more

The response has been phenomenal, Feener said. He added he was delighted by the video his son made, being a “big time” fan of the Canadian rock band himself.

“I grew up in the Loverboy era,” he said.

Voters head to the polls on March 8.
