Texas Middle School Teacher Allegedly Had Sexual Relationship With Male Student

Alexandria Vera, 24, has been charged with continuous child sex abuse.

A middle school teacher in Houston, Texas has turned herself in after she allegedly had repeated sex with one of her 13-year-old students.

Alexandria Vera, a 24-year-old English teacher at Stovall Middle School, became pregnant with the eighth-grader's baby, according to Harris County prosecutors, but later had an abortion. The two had sex almost every day for nine months and Vera said they "loved each other," KHOU reports.

She has been charged with continuous sex abuse of a child. Child Protective Services is now investigating the family because they allegedly approved of the relationship.

“That kid was always over (Vera’s house in Spring) and she always told (neighbours) it was her brother,” an anonymous neighbour told KHOU.

Authorities said Vera admitted to starting a sexual relationship with the boy, who records show was younger than 14 when it started in September 2015, according to Click2Houston.

The teacher said the boy's parents supported their relationship and let him sleep over at her house. They also invited her to family events.

According to court documents, she became pregnant in January, but later had an abortion when Child Protective Services appeared in February at the school to ask about the relationship, which she denied at the time.

“That kid was always over (Vera’s house in Spring) and she always told (neighbours) it was her brother."

Vera taught at the school for two years before the sexual relationship started, police said, according to the National Post.

She was removed in April, the Aldine Independent School Board said in a statement obtained by the Post. She is on administrative leave and will find out in June whether or not her job will be terminated.

Vera also has a four-year-old daughter, according to KHOU. She was released Wednesday after posting US$100,000 bond.
