Cosmopolitan's Cornrow Braiding Video Gets Called Out By Viewers

And most viewers have definitely seen them before.

Cosmopolitan's beauty department has joined the long list of beauty mags to fumble the hairstyle in their latest how-to video.

The title dubbed the model's finished 'do a "Mohawk braid," and the subheading teased: "You’ve NEVER seen a braid like this before."

But many users were quick to comment that the technique used is cornrow braiding, and the traditional black braiding style is nothing new.

Commenters, both black and white, wrote that anyone who has seen a person of colour or black person has likely seen the style before.

One user chimed in: "I have see a braid like this before. It's called a cornrow(s). You just loosened it up. No matter how loose or how tight a cornrow is, a cornrow is a cornrow."

Another added: "'Double cuff Mohawk braid'?! Wow. I'm actually a little impressed, Cosmo. You managed to be racist af to two different ethnic groups with only one video," referring to the indigenous tribe that originally sported the Mohawk hairstyle.

Cosmo editors quickly owned up to their mishap, leaving the original title but adding: "Many of you have commented on this video and the language used to promote it. We take your feedback seriously and we apologize. We can and will do better."
