Vaccines are a controversial topic among parents. But as of this year, the state of California has passed a new law cracking down on immunizations.
This new law states that children are not permitted to attend school without bringing in an immunization record proving that they have the right shots. Having personal reasons for not being vaccinated is no longer an allowable exception to this law.
For California schools starting in mid-August, a handful of students have already been turned away. But according to CBS, district officials say that “the majority of students without the proper immunization records come from families who just didn’t know about the requirements.”
In Canada, only Ontario and New Brunswick need a record of diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps and rubella vaccines. Manitoba requires a record of measles immunization. But students can be exempt from being vaccinated because of personal reasons.
