Food safety is often a hot topic at the start of summer thanks to barbecue season, but in reality, food poisoning can take place any time of the year.

In the video above, we discover three common cooking mistakes that compromise food safety. From the way we store produce to how long we let dishes cool before putting them in the fridge or freezer, these simple errors can result in some serious illnesses.

It is estimated that there are 4 million cases of food borne illnesses in Canada every year. Food poisoning can cause many symptoms including nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

If symptoms persist for more than three days, or if you experience more severe symptoms, seek medical help immediately.
