Growing up, I always had a hard time doing my makeup, particularly when it came to my eyes.
Any eye makeup tutorial I looked to would feature someone with big peepers and deep orbital bones — something very different than my Asian eyes with a slight crease.
To this day, I still have some issues doing my makeup, particularly when it comes to a smoky eye. So when the opportunity came up to get a tutorial with Charlotte Tilbury's national lead makeup artist, Kate Synnott, I jumped at the chance to learn how to get the subtle smoky eye of my dreams.
In the video above, Synnott gives me Charlotte Tilbury's "Dreamy Look," using the new "Legendary Muse" palette. The palette features a quad of shadows, which Tilbury refers to as the "prime," "enhance," "smoke" and "pop" shades, in golden hues to make your eyes look bigger, brighter and, of course, dreamier.
The key to nailing this look with my particular eye shape is to add subtle definition by shading the outer corner of the eyes with the "enhance" shade (or, the slightly darker shade in your palette), and then applying your "smoke" shade (or darkest shade) along the upper lash line to add depth and a bit of contour. If you want the illusion of a wider eye, add some sparkle (or the "pop" shade) close to the brow bone.
Kate finished off my look with some bold eyeliner and layers and layers of mascara to really make my eyes pop.
