Mom Upset By Election, Goes For Walk In Woods, Gets Best Reward

So awesome.

After left “heartbroken” by the U.S. election results, Margot Gerster took her daughter on a hike in Chappaqua, NY, and got an unexpected surprise. Walking in the same woods was presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

“I've been feeling so heartbroken since yesterday’s election and decided what better way to relax than take my girls hiking,” she wrote in a now-deleted Facebook post on Thursday. “We were the only ones there and it was so beautiful and relaxing.”

Just as the mom and her daughter Phoebe were leaving, they ran into Clinton, her husband Bill and their dogs, Maisie and Tally.

“I got to hug her and talk to her and tell her that one of my most proudest moments as a mother was taking Phoebe with me to vote for her,” Gerster continued. “She hugged me and thanked me and we exchanged some sweet pleasantries and then I let them continue their walk. Now, I’m not one for signs but I think ill definitely take this one. So proud.”

According to Gerster, Bill took the photo of her and Clinton, although the mom now regrets not getting Bill in the photo.

“I feel like it was more my chance to bring her comfort by telling her how proud I was to vote for her with my daughter,” Gerster told Today.com. “It's important to me that people know the reason I took the picture because for a lot of people it seemed like a dark time yesterday. I hope that it brings people hope or comfort.”

On Twitter, the photo has touched the hearts of many.

This isn’t the first time Gerster has met Clinton. According to Today.com, the 30-year-old mom previously met the former First Lady at a fundraiser about 15 years ago. Gerster recently shared a photo from that encounter on Facebook.

The Clintons have lived in Chappaqua for 17 years, so Gerster’s run-in with the couple shouldn’t be too surprising. Chappaqua is also where the Clintons voted Tuesday morning.

While at the polling station, Clinton talked to the New York Times about her supporters. “It’s a humbling feeling," she said. “I know how much responsibility goes with this. So many people are counting on the outcome of this election and what it means for our country.”
