We all know who Emily Doe is, even if we don't know her real identity.
In January 2015, Emily Doe was sexually assaulted by Stanford student Brock Turner while she lay unconscious behind a dumpster. Turner was sentenced to only six months in prison, and released after just three. Before his sentencing, Emily Doe addressed the court, reading a victim impact statement that ended up being read more than 11 million times in just a few days.
Emily Doe was named a Woman of the Year by Glamour magazine. On Monday night's Glamour Women of the Year Awards, part of her statement, as well as an essay she wrote for Glamour, was read aloud on stage by Gabourey Sidibe, Freida Pinto, and Amber Heard, with an introduction by Lena Dunham.

"Emily, wherever you are, thank you for your words. Thank you for your courage. We carry it with us every day," Heard said before Stanford Law School professor Michelle Dauber went on stage to accept the award on Emily Doe's behalf. Doe wrote the acceptance speech which Dauber delivered to the audience.

"The past year has been hard but through the worst times I've discovered I'm indestructible," the speech read in part. "I was slow to learn, but now I can't forget it.
"I am one of so many who have fought before me... so many who have had enough. I stand among millions of groundbreaking Emily Does. I have seen them speaking. I have seen the strength that accompanies healing."
It concluded: "Every story is our power. Together, we are louder than any system or person who threatens to silence us. Together we are countless and unstoppable. Now, we are indignantly rising. Be excited. Keep going. I'll be fighting alongside you."

Since Turner's sentencing, Dauber has been working to have judge Aaron Persky recalled, and, at his own request, Persky will no longer hear criminal cases.
