Cadillac Disavows Casting Call For ‘Real Alt-Right' Actors

General Motors’ Cadillac brand has distanced itself from a casting call for one of its commercials that tried to recruit actual members of the white nationalist alt-right movement.

The Cast Station, a casting company for film and TV, issued an ad looking for “any and all REAL Alt-Right believers/thinkers” for an campaign called “Cadillac - Real People.”

"This is a beautifully artistic spot that is captureing [sic] all walks of life of America," the ad stated.

Cadillac’s PR people to took to Twitter to disavow the campaign, saying they had never approved anything like it.

In a Facebook post, The Cast Station said the ad was “issued by mistake” and the employee responsible has been fired.

“Cadillac unequivocally did not authorize this notice or anything like it, and we apologize to Cadillac for the ex-employee's actions,” the company said.

The “alt-right” movement gained attention in the wake of Donald Trump’s electoral victory. Groups like the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazis like David Duke celebrated Hillary Clinton’s defeat.

Concern about the influence of the “alt-right” grew when Trump appointed Stephen K. Bannon as his White House chief of staff. Bannon, who previously ran the conservative Breitbart news site, is considered a leading icon for those in the "alt-right" movement.
