Before Wedding Planners Say 'I Do'

In the years I've worked in the wedding industry, I've experienced the good but also the bad and even the ugly. As a result though, I've spent so much time focusing on other couples that I've neglected my own relationships. My own proposal was exciting but it was also surreal. I thought I would be shouting from the mountaintops, letting the entire world know. Instead, I found myself feeling shy.

I've dedicated the last ten years to all things wedding-related; from designing invitations and gowns to running wedding shows and helping couples plan their weddings through Weddingful.com. Why am I so fascinated with weddings, you ask? Well, for starters, I love the romance, the creative touches and of course, the positive couples I've had the pleasure of working with.

In the years I've worked in the wedding industry, I've experienced the good but also the bad and even the ugly. What really grounds me though is the lovely couples that remind me what love is all about. We've had newlyweds send us letters, thanking us for helping them and making their big day special (and organized). This is why I've been planning weddings for years and years. As a result though, I've spent so much time focusing on other couples that I've neglected my own relationships.

It's not all in my control though. I've been dating for years and years. Being an entrepreneur and running my own business has forced me to spend most of my waking hours working, and when I'm not working, I'm thinking about work - so yeah, like I said, I've been dating for years.

I've dated all the usual suspects, like the guys who were just "not that into me" and the "I'm not ready" commitment-phobes. I've also dated some pretty great guys but my dad always warned me I didn't want to settle for anything less than the "right" guy. He would say, "If you exist, he exists too. It only takes one right person - wait for him." He encouraged me to take my time - and so I did. Finally one summer, I met that person. Things just clicked and I knew without a doubt that I had found the person my dad always encouraged me to wait for. My girlfriends were wise too. "It should be perfect and easy and he should bring out the best in you," they would say.

When he proposed to me in Paris, my heart dropped. I was genuinely surprised and elated, having stowed aside my own wedding dreams for years, in favor of helping other girls plan their wedding dreams. Of course the proposal was exciting but it was also surreal. I thought I would be shouting from the mountaintops, letting the entire world know. Instead, I found myself feeling shy about the whole thing. What if everyone expects me to have the perfect wedding? Perhaps all brides-to-be feel that way?

Now the pressure is on as I embark on this journey of planning my dream day. I will incorporate everything I've learned in this industry that works, leaving behind everything that just doesn't work. On a weekly basis, I will share my wedding journey with you - from selecting the venue to picking out the perfect gown and everything in between. I hope to share all my behind-the-scenes tidbits in hopes that I can help you plan your dream wedding too.
