Harnessing the Power of Photography

The expression, "a picture is worth a thousand words" may be a cliché, but the power of photography to move people and preserve your favourite moments is certainly not. The problem is our most powerful photo memories remain in limbo on our hard drives and lost in the constant shuffle of social media updates.

The expression, "a picture is worth a thousand words" may be a cliché, but the power of photography to move people and preserve your favourite moments is certainly not. The problem is our most powerful photo memories remain in limbo on our hard drives and lost in the constant shuffle of social media updates.

In a digital age where we are all budding photographers voraciously documenting our lives in pictures, what do we do with our most treasured photos? Slapping them on a mug or turning them into a puzzle or family calendar doesn't do them justice. The photo of your wife ethereally backlit by a one-of-a-kind Barbados sunset is art -- deserving of prime real estate on your living room wall, not a mug.

When I started Posterjack in 2009 no one was offering an affordable and professional way to turn your digital photos into high quality art and I seized the opportunity.

Three years later, Posterjack is the leading photo art printing company in Canada. My belief in the power of photography is still as strong ever and leading Posterjack in exciting new directions -- like partnering with talented local photographers to raise money for charity.

This August Posterjack is holding a Charity Photo Shootout, which is a friendly competition with four photographers all vying for a $1,000.00 donation to their charity of choice. For the first Photo Shootout we invited Toronto photographers Steve Carty, Jeff Davidson, Steve Russell, and Rannie Turingan to submit an original photo of a Toronto scene.

From now until August 31, Canadians can cast a vote to show their support for their favourite photographer and their chosen charity. As an added twist, when you vote you'll be entered to win your favourite photo in a 24 x 32 Gallery Frame.

Because of all the great feedback we have received, we plan to roll out the Charity Photo Shootout to photographers in other cities across Canada. The next stop: Calgary. Stay tuned for some incredible art from Calgary's top photographers and your chance to win.
