I Love Kim Kardashian's Vogue Spain Editorial and I'm Not Afraid To Admit It

Full disclosure: I'm not a Kim Kardashian fan. But in today's day and age, it's hard to escape the Kardashian-Jenner clan (especially as a fashion writer), because let's face it, whether we love or loathe them, we all have a certain fascination with the royal family of reality TV.

Full disclosure: I'm not a Kim Kardashian fan.

But in today's day and age, it's hard to escape the Kardashian-Jenner clan (especially as a fashion writer), because let's face it, whether we love or loathe them, we all have a certain fascination with the royal family of reality TV.

My real annoyance lies in Kim's magazine covers and editorials, which seem to be formulated to attract the maximum level of attention possible, whether positive or negative.

To be fair, the editorials and images are as much a product of the industry as they presumably are of Kardashian. She may or may not have a say in the styling, editing and execution, so who knows how responsible she is for how she's presented?

However, her latest spread in Vogue Spain is different. It's actually one Kim Kardashian editorial that I -- dare I say it -- love.

Photographed by Theo Wenner, it features a makeup-free or nearly makeup-free Kim, sans filter, wearing oversized pyjamas, cozy sweaters, and -- wait for it -- mom jeans. The goal of the shoot, Kim says, was to simply "capture me being me," ("me" being toned-down and low-key).

The candid shots show the 33-year-old in between naps (wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt and white undies), putting on grey running shoes (gasp!) while wearing her pjs and sipping on a cup of tea. Another pic is kind of awkward and comical at the same time, and shows the pregnant mother of one sitting on the ground, inspecting her toe (with 15-carat diamond ring in full view).

Perhaps the reason I love this spread so much is because it's one of the few times I feel as though I'm getting a real look at Kim, ironic, considering she's on a reality TV show. The other time was when she appeared on Variety, visible pores and all.

But aside from that, every photo opp, every selfie, every appearance of hers seems to be so perfectly curated and edited, that nothing ever seems real. I want to know what's underneath all that airbrushing, that contouring, those clothes. I want to see stripped-down Kim -- and I don't mean oiled up with every single hair follicle photoshopped from her skin.

Yes, it's another way for her to garner attention. There's not much else she can do to "shock" us anymore, except, quite literally, remove her mask.

And sure, maybe it's not a "real" look at all. This is how Kim admittedly wants us to view her -- low-key, refined and just simply beautiful. But that's the Kim that I prefer.
