Candidate Blog: What I Would Do About Corruption

I entered the By-Elections in the Toronto Centre district representing the Online Party of Canada because this is the time to remind Canadians that they can still do something to change the Canadian politics!

I find that protests are futile and the well-oiled advertising machines the big parties have acquired over the years, financed by your tax dollars, are ready to tell you how the Canada's Economic Action plan is working for you, when in fact it is not.

The 'Number One' issue in our federal political system, in my opinion, is corruption, and it applies to all levels of government. Many years ago our fairly Centre-Left inclined country voted in the Conservative Party and voted out the Liberal Party, mainly because of a huge corruption scandal. The Conservative government has been linked to slightly different kind of scandals, namely elections irregularities, starting with the 'Robocalls' scandal, 'In and Out' scandal, then the multi-billion dollar 'Fighter Jet' scandal -- just to name a few. There's a whole list of Canadian political scandals, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. If you thought our country was free of political corruption...think again!

Note to self as Candidate (Bill Clinton's style): This time around "it's the Corruption, stupid."

The Conservative party talks about job creation and economic growth, job creation and other 'different topic' things; the Liberal Party believes we all forgot why they're not in power anymore, and talk about childcare support and legalizing marijuana, among other 'different topic' things. The big parties won't even mention the word "corruption," and in all fairness, that would be too hypocritical.

The party I represent has placed "Fight Against Corruption" on the top of its newly released political platform. The proposed method to fight corruption is legislating Accountability, Transparency and Competence. OPC proposes that every MP shall sign an Accountability Oath pledging to vote in accordance with the voters' will and removal of their immunity; also that all government contracts, internal documents, expense reports and salaries (anything that is not a military secret) be posted online for everyone to see. After all it's our money they manage on our behalf an we have a right to know what is going on without having to file requests for information.

And lastly, the MPs regardless of their prior education shall undergo formal training in public affairs, with exams and written papers, just to get a better idea about the public affairs they're discussing. We believe that this is a good start in cleaning up our political system. No other party has a similar or better plan to fight corruption, especially the big parties who thrive in it. If elected, I will make every effort to help other like-minded Candidates to get elected so together we can push this initiative into law.

I believe that a more accountable, transparent and competent government will constitute a solid foundation and lead to better results. Economic growth, job creation, better healthcare, social justice, sensible foreign policies etc. are just results of good, representative governance, and that is why we must start with building a solid foundation.

Other issues I believe are key to today's political dialogue: Healthcare reform, National strategies on Infrastructure, Environment and Electoral Reform. Please follow my Candidate Blog to find out how I would address those.
