Charmayne Parks went from having two siblings to seven.
It turns out it's not the kind of thing you can push on kids.
It's not always easy having boys 15 months apart. Now ages six and seven, they have always wanted the same thing at the same time -- same toys, same food, same clothes. They often feel they are somehow competing for the same resources, too, whether it be our time or attention.
Rough play helps stimulate the brain and enables siblings to develop both cognitive and emotional intelligence. After all, when one pins the other to the ground, they are learning to read facial expressions and interpret body language. They are also learning about fairness and developing fledgling conflict resolution skills.
In our eyes, and in our kids' eyes, uncles truly rock. Thank you uncles everywhere, for being such important members of our family, for loving our kids, for helping to take care of them and for teaching our children so many things. You do not always get along. Sam told me approximately 44 times this morning that P.J. popped her green balloon. P.J. sometimes resorts to creating Mega-bloks jail cells to contain Sam. Alex pulls Sam's hair. Sam pulls back. But you get more pure joy from each other than you get from water balloons, McDonald's fries and the iPad combined. Which is saying a lot.
