Maybe it's the shape-shifting cake in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, or the weird knight, or that damn cat. I just can't say. But here's what I do know: I've read numerous fantasy books that, in my humble opinion, are far more enjoyable than slogging through innocent Alice's "amazing" adventures.
In a city where "game" is most often prefaced with the word "video," Vancouver's Giant Monster Games is going retro. They're rolling the dice on a Kickstarter campaign to bring Kingdom Bots to board game fans.
I have a fondness for fantasy/SF and I've long been an observer of and advocate for Canadian film and TV. And I see deliberately "bad" films as corrosive to both. It doesn't build anything. It's just a bunch of bad movies for which even your supposed fans have little respect.
Since fantasy/science fiction and Canadian film/TV are two things I think about way too much, pull up a big chair for two to cozy up in, and let's look at where this combo has been, where it's at -- and where it could go, should go, or is going.
The main draw of any convention are the celebrity guests that are booked to attend. As always, this year's Fan Expo features a very impressive guest list, which includes Firefly's Nathan Fillion, Star Trek's Zachary Quinto, wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, and a number of cast members from The Walking Dead. Plan ahead, or risk missing out on your favourite celebrities!
