Saying no and depriving yourself of sugar can do more harm than good. By saying no while your body is craving a particular type of food, you're essentially torturing yourself, and it can result in binge eating. The trick is to listen to your body and allow yourself to eat those sweet cravings in moderation. Eating in moderation will prevent you from binge eating later and having a sugar relapse.
October 8 is World Sight Day. As I reflect on World Sight Day 2015's call to action: "Eye care for all", I'm struck by how much Canadians have already contributed towards one key aspect of eye care -- preventing blindness.
Canada made a concerted effort to end malaria deaths in this country a century ago and is now supporting efforts to do the same around the world as part of leadership on MNCH. WHO recommends vitamin A supplements to improve child survival. Vitamin A supplements have been shown to reduce the number of deaths from measles by 50 per cent, in populations with vitamin A deficiency. For children who are vitamin A deficient or undernourished, it would seem a simple solution -- immunization against measles and better nutrition -- to save lives.
