As a Canadian, it's hard to believe it's possible for teachers to successfully educate 104 children of different grades in a single classroom. Where children sit on a dirt floor, have an empty stomach, don't have sufficient school supplies for their needs. Children excited to be in school, no matter how far they had to walk under a blazing sun.
This is a riposte to an article in The Huffington Post by a Professor of Philosophy, titled "Message to My Freshman Students." This article left me shaking my head. I am a professional university teacher, with an interest in pedagogy and in particular, managing the crucial transition year from high school to university. Here is my opening speech.
For many years there was no educational Louis Pasteur for reformers to rally round, and so educators have been able to cling to their unfortunate philosophies. This is no longer the case. Unfortunately, many education leaders are ignoring these new findings. Why is that?
