rentals

Kitchener, Ont. takes the crown.
In most Canadian cities -- and many smaller communities too -- renters are increasingly being priced out of the market. It's no secret, real estate is hot hot hot, and it's not just the prices of homes and condos that's gone off the chart, as part of the active market, rental prices have also skyrocketed.
A lot of renters don't realize they need Renters Insurance. Many think the building owner's insurance covers them. WRONG. You need to insure all your stuff. Here's why.
Give up and move somewhere else, already.
A second home purchase is a big deal. A furnished, comfy, home away from home in the likes of Lake Tahoe or Daytona Beach comes with spectacular scenery, an even better climate and a price tag. But vacation homes don't have to exist only in your dreams.
Housing and rental markets aren't quite as clear cut as we'd like to believe. Which means if you're looking to live in Vancouver, New York, Los Angeles or other so-called "cost-prohibitive locations," there may be more options than you realize.
We all have our deal breakers when it comes to rental flooring. Maybe you hate carpet, maybe you can't deal with linoleum or maybe you despise tile. Me, I hate parquet. And when I say parquet, I mean the cheap generic stuff you find in apartment buildings, not the beautiful 17th century flooring in Versailles. I'm not insane, obviously those floors are gorgeous.
Finding a good rental unit for a decent price is hard enough as it is without the added task of finding one that is pet-friendly, too. I can accept that not everyone loves dogs as much as I do, but does that mean they can deny me a nice apartment, charge me a fee or evict me?
What it will get you in Charlottetown is NOT what it'll get you in Vancouver.
Human tenants can just as easily ruin walls by putting nails in them, or allowing kids to draw on them. They can ruin carpets by walking around in muddy shoes in-house -- and by a multitude of other more creative ways. Arguably, some pets are better than their human counterparts. In fact, many pets are perfect citizens with impeccable manners. Some are not.
