From September 8-18, Toronto rolls out the red carpet for some of the biggest names in Hollywood. But, it's not just the promise of international interviews, parties and film premieres that lure the heavy hitters. Toronto International Film Festival gifting lounges pack their own punch offering some of the most extravagant giveaways and luxurious pampering.
Everyone loves gifts, and companies especially like sharing their products with celebrities and other influencers, hoping to associate their brands with A-listers, and get some all-important media attention. So with every TIFF comes the inevitable swag room: The Gift Lounge. What was up for grabs this year?
I respect the City Councillors Josh Matlow of St. Paul's ward and Gord Perks of Parkdale-High Park ward. It is just too bad they do not respect the wishes of the long-suffering residents of Scarborough who want and deserve a piece of the same subway/ transit benefits and opportunities that Matlow and Perks' own downtown Toronto constituents enjoy.
Downtown Toronto NIMBYs have taken NIMBYism to a whole new level of intolerance verging on discrimination. Which I have dubbed SWAGism. SWAGs wish to separate their established and affluent communities from the poorer inner suburbs of Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, York and East York, that adjoin downtown Toronto.
