With many thanks to designers like Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney, the polka dot has made a major comeback this fall. The delightful thing about the polka dot is its versatility: it's light, fun and youthful, yet it can be very elegant and feminine.

The designer that most boldly featured this print for this season is Marc Jacobs, who dressed his models in head-to-toe polka dots on latex, lace and leather. The collection was covered in spots, both large and small, flat and three-dimensional. Wearing a print this way would push the boundaries, however there's no need to take these looks too literally: you can incorporate polka dots with accessories and nylons like the ones seen on the catwalk.

An opposite to the extremity and fabric selection at Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney incorporated dots with sequin-like discs embroidered onto ivory silk and tulle, a much more feminine approach to the trend. Canadian favourite, Jeremy Laing, also featured the dot this season on voluminous wool coats and layered knit dresses.

I'm not shy about my love for polka dots: I wore them four days in a row at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week in a variety of ways: large, small and sequined and from blouses to a feminine, '50s-inspired midi dress. Whether you want to incorporate a pop of polka-dots with a small piece or wear this prominent print à la Marc Jacobs, I assure you, the options are endless. My top polka-dotted picks:
