Campfire Blueberry Cobbler Recipe

Tired of smores and roasted marshmallows? Then we have a wonderful campfire blueberry cobbler recipe that is going to knock your socks off! The recipe below is for a first night dessert or for car camping, but if you are backpacking or canoeing, see the tips for how to convert it to a back-country campfire dessert recipe.

What you need

  • ½ cup old-fashioned oats
  • 6 tbsp flour
  • 3 tbsp packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp butter (and a little bit more for the foil)
  • 1 ½ cups blueberries


Before you leave, combine the oats, sugars, flour, and cinnamon in a sealable plastic bag. When you are ready to enjoy your cobbler, add the butter to the dry ingredients and rub in until it's crumbly. In a small skillet or camping pot, layer your blueberries on the bottom and then sprinkle the oats mixture over the top. Bake over the fire for 20 minutes. Tent foil or a larger pot over your cobbler for a crispy, browned top.

For back-country campers

Substitute 3 tbsp. of coconut oil for the butter and used canned fruit like peaches, cherries or apricots.You can also use fresh fruit like apples and pineapples. Don't want to take cans? Use one layer of pitted dates instead. You can cook this recipe in foil. Lay out the foil and rub with butter or oil to prevent sticking. Put the fruit down first, then sprinkle the oats mixture over the top. Tent the foil up over the cobbler and bake on the grill until golden brown (about 20 minutes).
