I am becoming more fashion forward. Still, I can get flustered easily and overwhelmed with clothing options so I spoke with an expert. Cate Rodrigue, Brand Manager at Orb Clothing shared with me some good news. There is plenty of casual, comfy (mandatory) and earth-friendly fashion this spring.

If you have been reading my blog for a while now, you know that my "fashion sense" consists of pajamas and sweats. This has been slowly improving, bit by bit, I am becoming more fashion forward. Still, I can get flustered easily and overwhelmed with clothing options so I spoke with an expert.

Cate Rodrigue, Brand Manager at Orb Clothing shared with me some good news. There is plenty of casual, comfy (mandatory) and earth-friendly fashion this spring.

A material which is on trend this spring, is soft and sustainable is a cotton/silk blend. Cate shared with me more about this fabric which is being used to make clothing like blouses, "it is a natural material -- a cotton/silk blend which is plant based rather than petro chemical. Breathes with you, feel amazing and can be worn comfortably for long periods of time."

Cate revealed some of the top colours and trends for fashion this spring.

Colours that are on trend for Spring:

Amalfi Blue, a fresh Mediterranean blue and ocean blues are hot this season.

Black and White combinations, especially I stripes or bold colour blocking.

Rosa pink, which is a beautiful rich coral and forms part of the fragrant pinks that are trending and Pietra Grey which fits in the warm neutrals trend.

Key pieces for spring:

A statement blazer in bold florals or stripes, can transcend activities and transform outfits.

A great short that can go anywhere with you -- blurring activities is a big trend and a dress that you can wear out to dinner or running errands in.

Dresses are still a big fashion piece.

A sweater that you want to live in -- preferably something drapey and flowy to fit the trend of cocooning!

Clothing and accessories that are on trend this spring and flatter a variety of body types:

Cotton silk shirts are great for everybody, as they can worn in a variety of ways; so light and airy.

A maxi dress is super stretchy, easy to throw on and can have ruching on the sides. This ruching can help hide bumps and bulges and can give the waist definition.

Scarves are always great for every body type! They add colour and texture to any outfit or face and can be used to balance, accentuate or disguise everything from wide hips, skinny frames, big busts or flat chests to torso lengths and long necks!

Materials this spring which are sustainable and fashionable:

Cotton/silk fabric is a great example -- sheer, light and airy, it dries quickly, looks great wrinkled or smooth and can be worn in a wide variety of outfits.

Merino wool is a natural thermo regulator helping to keep the body cool or warm as needed, as well as being sustainable.

Modal, a super soft jersey fabric made from birch tree pulp and recycled polyester are all on trend this spring too.

Cate continued to share with me that turning an outfit into something on trend is quite easy this season. Throw a bold statement blazer on with everything you already own -- from jeans and a tank to a dress or even shorts -- and it will suddenly say something new.

Stripes are hot this season -- especially black and white so a scarf or bag can add that look easily. Very neutral colours like taupes, oatmeal and blush pinks or corals are big and wearing these in combination hits the trend.

My anxieties about putting together a cute sustainable outfit this spring have now subsided and I am looking forward to trying some of her tips. Especially the statement blazer, this one should be easy for me!
