Top Trends For Yoga Wear This Season

With the chilly weather outside, this time of year layering options are really popular for yoga. Choose pieces that you can remove as you warm up once you're on the mat. Pairing a strappy bra with a tank and covering up with a long sleeve tee allows you to peel off the layers as you begin moving through your poses and start to sweat.

It's no secret, I love yoga. Not just for what it does for my body, but most importantly what it does for my mind and spirit.

Wearing yoga clothes that breathe and I feel comfortable in are the best. And let's face it; I spend a lot of time outside of the studio wearing yoga clothes because they are so comfortable.

To find out the latest trends in yoga wear and the top tips for a yoga newbie, I spoke with Antonia Iamartino, Design Director - Future Concepts, lululemon athletica. Antonia shared everything you need to know for the latest yoga styles.

What are the top trends for yoga wear this season?

With the chilly weather outside, this time of year layering options are really popular for yoga. Choose pieces that you can remove as you warm up once you're on the mat. Pairing a strappy bra with a tank and covering up with a long sleeve tee allows you to peel off the layers as you begin moving through your poses and start to sweat.

What are the new innovations for yoga wear?

There is a new concept around how you want to feel in your gear. The idea is that you can shop for your garment based on how you want to feel when you put it on. There are five different sensations -- tight, hugged, held-in, naked and relaxed -- with each fit based on a different level of compression.

How to choose the right yoga wear for your practice?

When choosing your yoga gear you want to keep function top of mind. Depending on what type of yoga you'll be doing, you'll require different features from your garments. For hot yoga, you'll want to look for something that will dry quickly and wick moisture away.

For a Vinyasa or Kundalini class, a higher-waisted pant can be a great option. This style of pant will leave you feeling supported and covered as you bend, twist and move through your poses.

If you are a newbie to yoga what would you start with?

If you're new to yoga, look for garments that are sweat-wicking, have four-way stretch and are breathable. You want to find an outfit that you feel comfortable in, lets you move freely and makes you feel great, allowing you to get the most out of your class.

What are the hot styles to wear after your yoga class? (going to the grocery store, running errands, etc.)

This time of year layering options and warmer fabrics will help keep you warm as you move from studio to running afternoon errands. Comfy wraps and pullovers make for great post-yoga layering options and transitional pieces.

Any other tips or trends?

Try choosing a technical garment with some fun feminine detail will leave you feeling strong and beautiful during your practice. Another way to punch up your yoga outfit is to wear a colourful bra that peeks out from your tank, personalizing your style on the mat.

One final tip is to have fun with your mat! There are reversible mats that allow you to choose the right surface for your practice, and lets you switch up what colour you have facing up -- setting your mood for any class.

No matter what look or styles you prefer, my biggest tip when choosing your yoga gear is to make sure that you feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing. Once you step on that mat, you want to feel great and have minimal distractions so you can focus on your class.

I will continue to practice yoga and will share my experiences. If you have ideas or questions about yoga please leave a comment below and I will do my best to find the answer for you.

Your suggestions are always welcome, as I continue on my journey to enjoy life to the fullest. Let's have the very best year ever!
