For me, travel usually consists of planning my route in order to give myself a sense of safety and getting the most of my time abroad. However, when it comes to Peru, I recommend getting lost. Fly into Lima and walk in the general direction of the ocean until you find it. Enjoy local cafes and artistically painted buildings along the way. Leave your hostel in Cuzco bright and early and take turns down whatever road may look interesting. Wander into a local market and take a seat while a motherly woman makes your dish just the way you like it.
Somehow, even if you're lost in Peru, there is something about this place that always gives you a sense of being at home.
