Some BlackBerry users on Friday morning are experiencing a service outage affecting emails and BBM, the company's proprietary messaging platform.

A number of messages appeared on Twitter from users saying that emails and BBM was not working. We are also seeing messages from users in the UK and other countries that they were experiencing problems with their devices. Messages from Vodafone Egypt and Etisalat Misr, two cellphone service providers in the Middle East, are saying that the outage is an issue with RIM's network.

Users from a number of Canada's major cellphone carriers are reporting outages, the Financial Post reports.

SaskTel is reporting a BlackBerry outage on its Facebook page.

"For Blackberry users: there was an interruption in service that has caused slow or delayed BBIM, Blackberry is aware and working on it," the company posted on its Facebook wall.

Both of RIM's official Twitter accounts, @BlackBerry and @BlackBerryHelp have not tweeted about the outage. The company's home page also does not mention any service issues.

RIM shares dropped steeply on the TSX on Friday after the company reported weak profit and sales numbers on Thursday.

RIM is treading water. My previous two phones were blackberries and I loved them. But when Verizon changed their data packages and said I would only remained grandfathered in if I upgraded from Iphone to Iphone, droid to droid, etc. I knew there was a time in the near future when there would be no more blackberries to upgrade and jumped ship.
They got behind the 8 ball and in technology. That is the kiss of death these days.
