Trendy or tired: What do you think of undercut hairstyles?

By definition, trends are fleeting. They're ephemeral. And each day we see our fair share of looks we'd like to remove from our sartorial lexicon. So join us, each week, as we analyze a trend that's had its 15 minutes of fame. These looks are well into their Minute 16, folks. It's time to usher them toward stage left.

The Trend: Ladies, drop that razor! Unless you're fronting a 70s punk band, there is no need for you to be rocking an undercut. Salons have seen an increased number of requests for this hairstyle over the last few years, but that doesn't mean you need to follow this risky trend. Borrowed from the male species, the cut consists of shearing away a section of hair, while leaving the rest long. Unique? Sure. Brave? Yeah. Overrated? You got it!

Chief Offenders: You won't find this look on any of Hollywood's good-girls, their locks are too precious to chop off. Stars like Rihanna, Lloyd Cher and British model, Alice Dellal, on the other hand, have all been spotted rocking this lack-of-hair look on various occasions.

What's Wrong With It: Don't get us wrong, we're all for being unique and sticking-it-to-the-man with our sartorial decisions, but we just don't get why you would want half your head feeling like a fuzzy carpet. And what happens when you get bored and want your hair to grow back? Or get invited to that fancy dinner party with your boss?

May We Suggest: There are a plethora of different ways to remain avant-garde among the crowds. If you're really set on going for something drastic, start small and add some colour to your hair or chop off a few inches if you've got long, flowing locks. Want to channel the inner rocker in you? Opt for choppy, short layers and go to town when styling it every morning. Just remember, these stars have a team of stylists backing them on every decision they make, and since you don't, find a trusted salon or hairdresser that'll help you prepare the "new" you.
