The Best Kisses In Public: Real World Inspiration For Valentine's Day

Kissing In Public

No matter how lovestruck a couple might be, there's an important divide that comes up rather quickly in a relationship -- to kiss in public, or keep all manner of touching private.

For some, kissing and even holding hands is not for public consumption, while others will make out at the faintest hint of romance, not caring what the rest of the world thinks (or more cynically, making sure they're on display for all to see).

But throughout history, there have been liplocking moments that draw in everyone around them, captured on film for all to see and defining a time in a way that nothing else can.

Is it the voyeuristic thrill of watching someone else's intimacy that draws us in? Is it the suggestive nature of four lips meeting? Or is it just the inherent joy expressed in a kiss that makes it so memorable? Whatever the reason, when you see a truly monumental kiss, it leaves its mark for a long time.

The 1945 issue of Life that published this Alfred Eisenstaedt photo read: "In New York's Times Square a white-clad girl clutches her purse and skirt as an uninhibited sailor plants his lips squarely on hers." That white-clad girl was apparently Edith Shain, a nurse who went to Times Square to join in celebrating Japan's surrender and the eventual end of World War II.

Yeah, Vancouver couple is definitely cool... unless of course you realize that the police are going in the opposite direction. The area was a little safer than originally presented. Still very cool though for the imagery though.

Nothing, I mean NOTHING, touches Vancouver Riot Couple. That image is so surreal. I've not heard a lot about it sine it happened, I hope the photographer won an award.. if it was a set up, even better, and who ever thought about it should win an award. And the girl should win an award for great legs.

EPIC PHOTO!!!!!
