Not all of the shows that happened during Toronto Fashion Week happened at the tents at David Pecaut Square.
To kick off the week's fashionable festivities, Lucian Matis took to a runway at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel to showcase his fall/winter 2012 wares. At once beautiful and also edgy, the line is an hommage to the symmetry of nature: the balance of a butterfly's wings when compared to jagged rock formations.
"The lines in nature can travel, swirl and conjoin. These natural patterns are nature's expression and purpose," explains Matis. "My designs have adapted and evolved through colours and shapes; the grace in movement which this planet and nature must play out from minute to minute, birth to death and, most importantly, the beauty in attraction."
Almost entirely black, the collection screams "perfect attire for a girl's night out." Even the runway's beauty looks had a certain surreal yet natural quality: feather tips on nails? Yes, please!
Born in Romania, Toronto-based Matis attained international recognition after appearing on Project Runway Canada.
