Lasvegas
Las Vegas is a top travel destination for Canadians...but it's not the only one.

What are your top travel destinations?

It's no secret that Canadians love to travel. But where do we travel to the most?

Hotels.com® has uncovered exactly where in the world Canadians are going to indulge their international travel desires.

The United States is our closest neighbour so it's no surprise that we enjoy scooting across the border to visit our American friends. Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Atlantic City are all targets for Canadian tourists. But we aren't afraid to visit destinations in Europe and Asia either.

  • #18 Hong Kong

  • #16 Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale is home to many beaches and home for many Canadians.

  • #15 Rome

Rome wasn't built in a day, and good thing too, otherwise this breathtaking city might not be what it is now. Besides the famous, and delicious, Italian cuisine, the city of Rome is also a stunning tribute to the past with classic historic sites like Vatican City - a definite must-see for first-time visitors. Accommodation in this historic city goes for average daily rate of $188 CDN.
Source - Hotels.com

  • #14 Newark

The New York City area hub brings many a Canadian into the area where they are a short trip away from bustling Manhattan.

  • #13 Honolulu

Hawaii's beaches, tropical climes and its culture make Honolulu a destination for many travellers.

  • #12 Miami

A popular year-round getaway for Canadians looking to escape to the beaches and party lifestyle. Key West is also a short trip from South Beach.

  • #11 San Diego

  • #10 Paris

Ah, Paris. Culture, monuments, food and museums are just the start to an immensely popular tourist destination.

  • #10 Paris

For those who have visited the 'City of Love,' it's easy to see how it got its name. Visitors fall for the French culture, cuisine and European fashion. Paris is the type of place that can make even the little things, like a coffee and croissant in the morning, special. Travellers can book hotels in Paris for an average of $205 CDN per night.
Source - Hotels.com

  • #9 London

Aside from our neighbours to the south...
London has been a long-standing favourite amongst Canadians who can't seem to resist this popular destination across the pond. This fast-paced city has great shops, a trendy music scene, and residents with charming accents - what's not to love? This summer stands to be a busy one for Londoners as it's also hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics, so if you're looking for a London hotel, do it now! Average daily hotel rates in London are $220 CDN.
Source - Hotels.com

  • #8 Los Angeles

L.A., home to Sunset Strip and near many amusement parks make it a must-visit U.S. city.

  • #7 Boston

The old city has a great mix of cosmopolitan lifestyle mixed with many historic neighbourhoods and buildings.

  • #6 San Francisco

The cool West Coast city is a great walking city, with eclectic neighbourhoods, authentic cuisine and a gateway to wine country.

  • #5 Orlando

SeaWorld, Disney World Resort and other outdoor activities makes this a popular destination.

  • #4. Seattle

This West Coast city is known for coffee, laid-back culture and the Space Needle and is a perfect place to explore many of the region's great cities.

  • #3 Chicago

Chicago has literally blown away its competition in the last year, jumping from the number 10 spot in 2010, to number three in 2011. The Windy City has a wide variety of attractions for tourists alongside impressive views and architecture. It is also known as the 'City in a Garden,' and the perfect urban destination for eco-friendly travellers who are sure to appreciate all the green space. The average daily rate for hotels in Chicago comes in at $166 CDN.
Source - Hotels.com

  • #2 Las Vegas

Vegas is a place where dreams can come true. Think Disneyland, but for adults. Vegas took the number two spot which leads us to think that maybe sleep isn't high on the agenda for Canadian travellers. Maybe it's because visitors spend so little time sleeping that the city also has some of the best travel deals. The average daily rate for hotels in Las Vegas is only $107 CDN- less than half of New York.
Source - Hotels.com

  • #1 New York City

    The heavy hitters
The Big Apple took the number one international spot for Canadian travellers and it's really no surprise. With high-end shopping, high-class restaurants and high-intensity Broadway shows, New York has something for everyone... it just might cost you. It is also the only U.S. city in the top 10 international destinations with an average daily hotel rate of more than $200, coming in at $256 CDN.
Source - Hotels.com

Avoid it in the deep cold of winter and Chicago can easily be best US city for tourists. It's diverse, has world class museums, great food, a beautiful waterfront and can accomodate budgets from $ to $$$$$. Everyone can enjoy it.

I can't think of a place I'd want to avoid more than Las Vegas. Seems like the most depressing and over commercialized place on the face of the Earth. Disgusting.

Don't worry.

You'll get better.

Wouldn't you rather go to New York, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Austin, Memphis, San Diego, etc, etc, rather than Las Vegas?

I'm not a fan of it really. But the whole place just seems where you'd overhear "brah" a lot. That's a major turn off for me.

This list seems highly suspect. I am not sure how Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta, And Porta Prince DR didnt make the list when from my experience I know people going to these places all the time, yet Rome, Hawaii and Washington DC made the list when I only know a handful of Canadians that have been to these places.

I don't let geographical borders limit my thinking

I think the list is off a bit. Depends where you live in Canada from Ontario we tend to go to Mexico, Florida, I just came back from Playa del Carmen great beach.

One of my best friends lives in Calgary they go to Hawaii and Arizona as it is much cheaper from there.

Have done the LA/Vegas/San Diego and Paris loved Paris
