Katy Perry channeled flapper style with flawless hair and makeup at an even to honour MTV founder Bob Pittman last week, but her dress fell flat.

Her shiny satin slip dress was a little too clingy for comfort, and reminded us why satin is usually worn under other garments. It’s not a flattering look, no matter how lovely Katy is or how many hours she spends in the gym.

Don’t get us wrong, we totally love her retro waves and bejeweled headband. From the neck up Katy gets 10 out of 10 for this look. But unfortunately the further you look down at the dress the more unflattering it becomes.

Satin is one of those infamous fabrics that seem to stick to the skin, especially in the heat, and shows every little bump and imperfection. Whether it's a seam from an undergarment or an extra pound or two, satin shows it all off. We applaud Katy for being so brave, but we’re going to stay away from this clingy fabric.
