Punk rocker Joe Keithley, also known as Joey Shithead, wants to run for the B.C. NDP in Coquitlam Burke-Mountain in next May's provincial election.
Keithley, who was raised in Burnaby and leads the popular punk band D.O.A. confirmed the news on his Twitter account on Wednesday, saying he will "work for justice."
"I'll be wearing a suit and I won't be wearing a guitar,” Keithley told The Vancouver Sun.
If Keithley is chosen to represent the NDP, he’ll be up against Liberal incumbent Douglas Horne.
"I guess maybe I'm thinking it's my turn if I win this nomination, win the riding in the election, to work inside the mainstream and help people,” the rocker told News 1130.
Keithley has jumped into provincial politics before. In 1996 and 2001, he ran under the Green Party banner in Burnaby-Willingdon, which has now been dissolved. He finished fifth in 1996 and third in 2001, according to The Province.
