Nicky Calliou, a violent sex offender, was released from the Bowden Institution on Thursday and Mounties are urging caution.

Calliou is being released in the Lloydminster area, said RCMP Cpl. Melinda Tomlinson, adding Calliou served three months for sexual assault.

Calliou has a violent sexual past that includes convictions for an indecent act, sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon and robbery.

"The RCMP is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation and consideration of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community of the release of Nicky Calliou." said Tomlinson.

"The RCMP believe that there is a risk of significant harm to the health and safety of the public, and in particular, adult females.

"Members of the public are advised that the intent of the process is to enable members of the public to take suitable recautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action."

Calliou is described as a 44-year-old, Metis, male, 175 cm in height, 70kg, with brown eyes and brown hair.
