An Edmonton couple has been charged with a litany of poaching charges, including shooting wildlife in a farm, CTV News Edmonton reports.
Kristopher Brophy, 35, and Michelle Haseloh, 25, face 131 charges - including hunting with prohibited firearms and hunting without a licnese, CTV reports.
“There’s alleged offences from Drayton Valley, Devon, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain. So it’s a large area,” Fish and Wildlife officer Quentin Isley told CTV, adding the charges come in the heels of a three-moth investigation by fish and Wildlife officers.
Fish and Wildlife officials say some of the charges involve an elk farm where animals were allegedly hunted in captivity, reports http://www.canadianinquirer.net.
Dan Laville, a spokesman with the solicitor general’s office told the Edmonton Sun "poachers do pose a significant threat to fish and wildlife in Alberta.
“Those who offend can face significant penalties."
The pair, who are scheduled to appear in a Stony Plain provincial court room on Nov. 6, under the province’s wildlife act, face penalties that include thousands of dollars in fines and jail time.
