A B.C. man has been charged with hacking into singer Carly Rae Jepsen's computer and stealing digital photos.
Jepsen's representatives alerted police in March to the unauthorized use of her computer and possible theft of nude photos, reported The Province. Apparently the offender was trying to sell the images to media.
On Tuesday, Vancouver police announced that Christopher David Long, 25, of Abbotsford has been charged with:
- fraudulently obtaining telecommunications services
- unauthorized use of computer
- mischief to data
- identity fraud
- possession of stolen property
Police did not name Jepsen, who is from Mission, B.C., but called the case the "alleged harassment of a local, well-known celebrity."
Topless photos and a sex tape alleging to feature Jepsen earlier this year were confirmed to be fake.
Jepsen, 27, shot to international fame with her song "Call Me Maybe" which as sold more than 10 million singles internationally. Last week, she was nominated for two Grammy Awards.
She's holding a free concert, sponsored by Target, at the Clarke Foundation Theatre in her hometown of Mission on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. Only 500 tickets will be given away (one per person in line) starting Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Mission Leisure Centre arena entrance.
