A suspect in an Edmonton bank robbery who was shot by police officers Tuesday afternoon has died, despite undergoing surgery for his injuries.
The Edmonton Journal reports that the 24-year-old suspect was shot by police who responded to calls of a bank robbery in progress at Canadian Western Bank, located at 2142 99 St.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) told media that two officers fired "multiple shots" at the man alleged to be part of the robbery and he was taken to hospital in critical condition.
According to the Edmonton Sun, the suspect was armed with a handgun when police arrived on scene.
Clifton Purvis, ASIRT executive director, told the Sun that it is not clear if the suspect fired his weapon before police fired theirs.
