Police in B.C. were astounded to hear a woman blame her baby for why she was driving 130 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

An Abbotsford police officer spotted the white BMW on Monday afternoon and tried to use flashing lights and sirens to get it to stop. The BMW did not pull over until after running a stop sign at 109 km/h, Const. Ian MacDonald said on Tuesday.

The female driver, 30, told the officer that she was speeding because an infant in the car was hungry and crying so she needed to get home to get the baby fed as quickly as possible, MacDonald told The Huffington Post B.C.

"Her perceived needs for the infant are more important than her safety, the infant’s safety or the safety of anyone else on the roadway," he said. The driver has a history of tickets for speeding and distracted driving.

The woman collected over $600 in fines on Monday in addition to having her car impounded, said MacDonald.

'YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS UP'

Half an hour earlier, Abbotsford police stopped a 22-year-old woman in a Ford going 103 km/h in a 50/h zone. She told police that she recently got her suspended driver's licence back and was "re-familiarizing" herself with driving.

"She wanted to make sure she could handle her car on a wet road so she could re-gain her confidence in driving," said MacDonald. "Seriously you can’t make this up."

She was ticketed for excessive speeding and had her vehicle impounded.

MacDonald said he expects both drivers to be further penalized by the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.

Abbotsford police said they attended the city's 100th collision of 2013 on Monday, just 28 days into the year. Driving conditions were rainy with limited visibility. MacDonald asked the public again to slow down and drive carefully.
