Benjamin Morin blew more than four times the legal limit and was arrested after allegedly almost crashing into an RCMP cruiser, Mounties said Tuesday.
Wetaskiwin RCMP say the officer pulled the offending vehicle over as it allegedly drove off erratically along Hwy. 611 on Sunday afternoon and arrested the driver.
Police say Morin provided a breath sample that put the man at more than four-and-a-half times the legal limit.
According to the blood alcohol chart used by law enforcement and medical professionals, the accused was allegedly driving with a potentially fatal level of alcohol in his system.
"In addition to the high level of the driver's breath samples, of further concern to police is the fact that this occurred in the middle of the afternoon," said Cst. Stephan Hynes, with Wetaskiwin Integrated Traffic Services.
"There was a passenger in the vehicle with him, he does not have a valid driver's license and he has previous convictions for impaired driving offences."
Morin, 31, has been charged with impaired driving, driving over 80 milligrams and driving while unauthorized.
