A poster on Webslueths posits the theory that she's sleepwalking on Ambien, which would explain her behavior. She walks in so nonchalantly, but peers super close to those buttons, like she's not wearing her contacts and got out of bed without her glasses.

If she was intoxicated, the water in the tank would have been tested positive for toxins since it is a fact that once a person dies, their waste is expelled from their body. Also in another article, it said "To get to the tanks, someone would have to go to the top floor then take a staircase with a locked door and emergency alarm preventing roof access." And if she were "mentally ill," I doubt her family would have allowed her to travel alone to somewhere she wasn't familiar with.

First of all, this girl does not appear to be frightened in any way. She gets on the elevator and presses every button with intent as if she wants it to stop at every floor. Maybe her way of confusing her hunter. Then she gets out, looks around and re-enters pressing the buttons again. The elevator doors won’t close. She stands in the corner and clearly, cracks a brief smile, and then walks back out. She is seen standing outside that elevator smiling, talking to someone while gesturing with her hands. Looks to me like she was playing, or at least trying to hide from someone in a playful manner. Perhaps she continued her game of hide and seek on the roof where she accidentally drowns herself after falling into the tank. It is entirely plausible. She absolutely does not appear to be frightened or in a panic like some have suggested. I may be going way out on a limb here, but I say the coroner report will come back that she was intoxicated and the investigators will rule no foul play. Accidental drowning.

Conclusion:

1 The elevator was running normally when she stepped in (opened for her)

2 After she got in, the elevator stopped working and there was not a soul in the passage outside the elevator throughout the time she was in and out the elevator, so she was scared, worried and driven to partial hysteria.

3 After she left the elevator for quite some time, probably after she was seen got into the stairs, the elevator door went back to normal, starting to move up or down one floor by one floor, opening once a while (from a longer version of video)

7 At 0.48 she stepped out, so frightened and nervous that she stamped both feet. But nobody, so she stepped back in and out again, still nobody, the elevator door remained motionless, she freaked out scratching her hair, came in holding her hands up as if expressing angry, pressed those buttons several times more. The elevator door wasnt responding at all.

8 She went out, stood by the left side for a while, got hysterical, moved her hands as if tried to invoke some mystic power to make the door respond, but no avail, shrugged and gave up, then, her anxiety grew stronger and stronger until she clutched her hands together and twisted her fingers, might be a habit of using physical pain to relieve extreme internal disturbance.

Her motion is so easy to understand:

1. Is the video starting from her first time getting into this elevator? Information missing out could make her later behaviour seem odd.

2. She came in normally from left side, doesnt look like she was playing hide and seek with anyone in a rush.

3 She pressed lots of buttons, nearsighted? to make sure the elevator would close asap?

4 She then stood as usual as anyone would, apparently waiting for the door to close, doesnt look like she was trying to hide from anyone in a hurry.

5 The elevator door didnt close, it was then she seemed to get suspicion about someone holding the elevator door open from outside, that explains why she tiptoed and thrusted her upper body out suddenly to catch sight of who was supposed to play the hide and seek trick with her, but she found nobody. That scared her to death, out of instinct she hid herself against the inner walls, but nothing but quietness.

6 She recovered from scare somewhat, started to move towards door and got outside to check the situation.

At the end of the video, with 10 secs left, she heads towards the left. Doesn't it look like there a hand being pulled away from the left elevator door after she is out of the frame??

Just a thought and a opinion from the elevator camera.

First she seems somewhat anxious to get going in the elevator. Like she is getting away from someone and is ok so far.

When the elevator does not respond,she becomes much more concerned that the escape is not happening. Time is getting short and no safe out available since the elevator is not responding.

Could be the reason for the increasing panicked behavior?

A question? Could a Hotel maintenance worker also have a remote control for the elevator.

A real sad story,and morbid to pollute the hotel water. Would make a Hitchcock movie.

Has an explanation been given for the elevator doors not closing? The buttons were so low, too. What an odd elevator.

To those who are so sure she died at the hands of an assailant: What if she was not completely in control of her mental faculties and was playing hide and seek? Maybe she eventually found that a water tank is the perfect place to hide, then she slipped and drowned?

To me it just looks like she is trying to figure out why the elevator isn't working. She seems to be waving her hands in the open door in an attempt to activate the auto eye that will close the door and allow the elevator to proceed.
Anyway, that's what I see.

Sorry to say it but this young lady is under the influence of something which has precipitated a psycho-pathological episode, perhaps drug-induced, or related to a mental disorder which has precipitated a psychotic break: simply put, she is reacting to something that is not really there. At 2:05, she begins gesticulating toward something not to her right but rather, opposite the elevator and slightly TO the right which should be in the camera's field and visible to us. She pushes the elevator buttons 19 times by my count. Regardless of how it was deactivated, the ALARM button will always respond, yet clearly she doesn't use it. The toxicology report should be very interesting.

I wonder why did the police publicized the complete video instead of just an image asking if anyone has seen her. If there is a camera in this elevator, there might be very many others in the other places like outside of the elevator...etc. I can simply make different stories out of the video, but what's the point? I'm sure police also questioned the front desk, checked if she had checked in when she got back from outside, the guest list..that sort of things. If there is only one video of her left and the rest that could possibly show her weren't available, that'd be the odd thing to look into.
