UBC Harlem Shake Crowds Campus Mall (VIDEO)

Posted: Updated:

The latest viral dance craze known as the "Harlem Shake" has reached the University of British Columbia (UBC) as more than 1,000 students took to the campus' main mall last week.

A YouTube video shows students grooving to the Harlem Shake in front of UBC's Koerner Library on Friday.

The video begins with a mascot doing hip thrusts alone on the Main Mall. Then a beat drops and a mob of students appears in wild costumes including robots, Teletubbies and a giant bagel.

UBC's Harlem Shake, organized by a campus group called The Calendar, drew about 1,400 students, CTV reported.

The video has gained almost 93,000 views on YouTube.

The Harlem Shake, a track produced by trap and bass producer Baauer, has spawned an online dance craze with imitations by the University of Toronto, University of Guelph and Carleton, as well as TSN.
