It’s a mess in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) today. A wet, cold, slushy, sloppy, snowy mess.
A storm hit the area late Tuesday and continued Wednesday morning, bringing heaps of heavy, wet snow to parts of Ontario, CBC reported.
“In terms of total accumulations, there's about four to five centimetres in the downtown core, higher amounts outside toward Pearson airport," Geoff Coulson, Environment Canada meteorologist, told CBC. "There may only be about 10 centimetres on the ground in some areas but it’s very heavy stuff."
The nasty weather caused at least 106 flight cancellations at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, and at least 80 arrival cancellations as of the late morning.
A number of schools were also affected, as many buses were cancelled.
Heavy snow makes for heavy lifting, so caution is recommended for all those shovelling snow out there. Harvard Medical School’s health blog advises shovellers to take breaks often, stay hydrated, and quit if experiencing chest pain, or lightheadedness.
