The family of an 8-year-old Birmingham girl who died in India is claiming she was killed for her organs.

The parents of Gurkiren Kaur Loyal said she fell ill while on holiday in the Punjab for Easter, the BBC reports. Her mother said they took her to a local doctor, who gave her an injection of an unknown substance.

"He just knelt over and inserted a syringe into her cannula," said Amrit Kaur Loyal, who asked the doctor what was in the syringe but got no answer.

She died seconds later, according to The Guardian.

When the girl’s body was returned to England, her major organs were missing, preventing pathologists from conducting post-mortem tests, The Telegraph reports.

A spokeswoman for the Birmingham coroner's office said there is "insufficient material" to determine a cause of death, adding that an inquest has been opened.

The family said Indian police and medical authorities have done little to investigate Gurkiren’s death.

"I feel extremely angry; I want answers. We just want to know what was in the syringe. The first step is getting her organs back and then, then, if they are her original organs we will take legal procedures against the clinic. I want justice,” Amrit said.
