Surf style has never been as cool as it is right now.
Surfers are reaching celebrity status, so David Beckham better make room for a swell of surf babes who are as stylish on land as they are in the water.
The likes of bronzed goddesses Lee-Ann Curren, Bethany Hamilton and Hamilton’s bestie, Alana Blanchard, are making waves (figuratively and literally) in the style department. (Think boho-chic mixed with athletic attire from beach brands like Roxy and Billabong.)
Brands and designers like Stella McCartney, Tommy Hilfiger and Club Monaco are also taking a cue from surfer style and creating surf-inspired attire with tropical prints, neoprene racer-backs and mesh.
Surf culture has managed to gain celebrity fans like Cameron Diaz, Mini Driver, Gerard Butler and Helen Hunt but let's focus on a new wave (no pun intended) of talented girls who have become celebrities for conquering the ocean in style.

The French native is the picture of surf girl chic, describing her style as “simple but edgy” and has even designed a capsule collection for Roxy. The blond beauty, who is also in a rock band called “Betty the Shark”, can usually be seen in casual shorts, fun t-shirts with prints and of course, a little polka dot bikini.
Evidence of the rise of fashionable female surfers includes Lee-Ann’s recent profile in Nylon magazine where she discusses her sport, music and fashion.
Many of us recognize Bethany Hamilton as the brave girl who lost an arm in a shark attack at the young age of 13 but returned to surfing against all odds.
Bethany became a celebrity after her autobiography was made into the film “Soul Surfer” starring Helen Hunt and "The Carrie Diaries" star AnnaSophia Robb.
But the 23-year-old still rocks beach appropriate, comfortable clothes when she's not at a movie premiere.
You’d think that Alana Blanchard and Bethany Hamilton, who have been best friends since childhood, would have the same aesthetic. While Bethany has innocence to her surf girl style, 23-year-old Blanchard, also a world-class surfer, has become somewhat of a sex symbol working as a bikini model. The hottie also has her own bikini collection with surfer company Rip Curl.
The Hawaii-native's style is a great blend of laid back island girl and sexy city slicker.
