But while there are no doubt lessons to be drawn from his struggles with addiction -- he entered rehab just this past April -- it is important to remember why the Canadian actor (who had never sung professionally before joining 'Glee') became such a star in the first place.
The once-unknown Vancouverite became an international sensation from the moment his character Finn Hudson was first seen singing REO Speedwagon's "Can't Fight This Feeling" in the locker room shower in the 'Glee' pilot, quickly followed by that same episode's climactic cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," the series still-signature song.
And so while friends and family deal with their unimaginable loss, we will remember Cory Monteith for the great happiness he gave 'Glee' fans through his best song performances as Finn Hudson. R.I.P.
