A suspect in a downtown Vancouver bank robbery was arrested on Saturday after trying to make a getaway on public transit.
Transit Police were alerted about a robbery at the TD Bank at Howe and Georgia at around 9:45 a.m. and provided a suspect description, the force said in a news release.
Transit officers found a man who matched the description leaving the Olympic Village Canada Line station and he was arrested with a Vancouver Police Canine Unit on hand.
Officers found a duffle bag containing cash and a large knife on the suspect at the time. Charges are now pending against him.
This isn't the first time that a suspected bank robber has tried to make a getaway on public transit. Last year, a Cambridge, Mass. bank robbery suspect was caught aboard a MBTA bus last year after a teller slipped a GPS tracking device into some money, The Boston Herald reported.
In 2010, a robbery suspect in San Jose, Calif. was caught at a light rail transit stop, United Press International reported.
