You can almost feel the tension in this video... certainly, you can hear it.
"Oh my God. It's coming," says a voice off-camera, as the buzz builds in power lines draped across a Quebec neighbourhood.
And what finally did emerge from that blinding spectacle? A silver DeLorean? A Terminator T-800, droning something about Sarah Connor?
The almighty wallop of a ball of electricity.
The moment was captured and posted on YouTube by Huw Griffiths, a resident of the Montreal borough of Lachine, on Friday -- during a wind storm that left more than 300,000 people without power.
“We knew that the wind storm was coming so we made sure that we had enough teams to go on the field as soon as the storm was over,” Patrice Lavoie, a spokesperson for Hydro-Quebec, told Global News. ”But there’s only so much we can do when we have to fight against the elements.”
But anyway, back to that BALL OF ELECTRICITY.
The YouTube crowd, mostly ooohed and awwed and referenced alien invasions.
The video is also popping eyeballs over at Reddit, where user BeesKnees21 lays down the ultimate logic hammer on this rather unnerving event, calling it a "high impedance electrical arcing fault".
For onlookers in the video, however, the electricity ball didn't so much smack of science, as straight-up supernatural terror. -The burst sent at least one man ducking into his house for cover.
Then came the cursory cursing, followed at last, by the requisite bookend: "Oh my God."
