Hockey commentator Don Cherry is “disappointed” in Toronto Mayor Rob Ford.
“As a mayor, if you could just cut out all the rest of the stuff, as a mayor he’s done a great job. Everybody thinks that. But I am disappointed,” he told Sportsnet 590 The Fan on Monday.
Last Tuesday, Ford admitted he smoked crack cocaine following months of controversy over a video reportedly showing him using the drug. A different video also emerged last week, showing an inebriated Ford ranting about murder.
The ‘Hockey Night In Canada’ host has supported Ford in the past, and was a special guest at the mayor’s inaugural city council meeting in 2010. Clad in pink “for all the pinkos out there who ride bicycles,” Cherry sang Ford’s praises nearly three years ago.
“I say he’s going to be the greatest mayor this city has ever ever seen, as far as I’m concerned. And put that in your pipe, you left-wing kooks,” he said.
Cherry's comment resurfaced on social media following Ford’s bombshell confession last week.
